      Father in-laws dimensions are 72x24x25 which equals 187, not 150 as I was told
      My tanks dimensions are 72x18x31 which equals 174 not 150 as I was told

      So IDK!!!!

        I'm pretty sure they use the inside measurements to figure out the gallons(thick glass will throw off the gallons)...I think the 150 you got off of me acutally has a sticker on the bottom of the tank with how many gallons it is.

          How thick is the glass? Many tank manufactuers usa a standard sizing nomenclature to the coustomer knows the foot print and approx volume. I think they figgure the water is like 1 inch lower than top of the tank for over flow. Plus you need inside dim's not outside, exp if the glass or acrylic is 1'' thick
